I am finally in love with the world (2025)

WUSHIREN Debut Performance

It began with a question:

When was the point at which life became death?

So we observed a flower withering. This process turned into our dramaturgy: what is the process of decay? what binds us to this world? can the body become a flower?

From these questions emerged I Am Finally In Love With The World — a physical theatre work exploring life, decay, attachment, and transformation through the body.

The work developed across three stages:

CONCEPTION

Scarlet Mela Festival of the Arts 2024

With an investigation of merging Tai Chi with Theatre

DEVELOPMENT

10-Week Artist-in-Residency

Intercultural Theatre Institute (ITI)

The investigation continued through a ten-week artist residency at ITI.

The work entered a deeper process of research, experimentation, and composition, culminating in two work-in-progress presentations.

Audience Feedback

… I found myself most gripped by the object and puppetry work; these performers can really summon the souls of everything from a stool to an empty picture frame…

Gorgeous images and some really stunning movement and choreography … It’s been years since I’ve seen a project like this!

Will never see movement the same way again.
My soul was mending in that hour.

SYNOPSIS

A young woman goes to her grandmother's house. There is a mountain of things. She goes inside the mountain. This production explores humanity's relationship with grief, mortality and enlightenment. Inspired by the idea that to learn how to live is to first learn how to die, the work weaves together: Traditional chinese martial arts, chinese philosophy and contemporary physical theatre techniques.

I am finally in love with the world is the debut production of WUSHIREN Theatre — This original Singaporean work invites you into a space of fleeting, luminous moments to ask: what remains after everything else has fallen away?
